BoardWalk Academy builds the knowledge, confidence, resources and connections for individuals who are under-represented on nonprofit boards and committees.

During six weekly sessions, participants will cover the roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards, how they function, are structured, and the important role they have in the provision of services in our community in addition to learning about their own leadership style and skills.

The goal is for participants to feel comfortable with the expectations of a board position and to begin serving in a leadership capacity on a nonprofit board or committee.

Participants may be:

  • In entry-level jobs
  • Recipients of services
  • People of color
  • Or others who didn’t see themselves serving in a volunteer leadership capacity
  • And are the people we need serving in leadership roles

BoardWalk includes:

  • Six weekly evening sessions
  • Training about basics of nonprofits and the role of nonprofit board members
  • Building leadership skills and self confidence
  • Networking with nonprofits recruiting for their boards
  • Learning how to have a voice in decisions affecting the community

  • Is open to anyone
  • Includes dinner, and transportation and childcare as needed for each session
  • Is free to attend
