A Note from Frank Alfano
As we enter 2021 with a glimmer of hope that it will be better than 2020, we unfortunately still have to contend with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In 2020, the pandemic forced the cancellation of a majority of the normal volunteer activities READI would have been part of. Being an optimist, we have contacted the over 30 organizations, we have volunteered in the past to make them aware that READI is still viable and willing to offer our services to them in 2021, if the current situation improves. Dane County Emergency Order #8 restrictions to public activities and mass gatherings is still in effect. Since many READI members are classified as high risk due to age and underlying conditions, the READI Leadership Committee believes that as was in 2020, in 2021 it is in the group’s best interest to suspend all regular activities in 2021 until the COVID-19 situation improves.
The Leadership Committee in 2020 regularly assessed limited volunteer activities that could be completed either remotely at home or at minimal exposure. In 2020, we were successful in providing United Way over 12,000 face masks and backpacks for homeless youth, Badger Childhood Cancer Network, Newbridge newsletters and in February will be making teddy bears for the Henry Vilas Zoo from home. If you are in contact with agencies you feel READI can provide assistance, please have them fill out the volunteer request form provided above and return to Deb. The Leadership Committee will evaluate and review the proposed project for member safety, minimal exposure and if we can meet the organization’s needs.
In the meantime, please be sure to continue to follow all the health and safety guidelines so that we can all volunteer together again as soon as possible.
Stay safe and healthy.
