A Note from Frank Alfano
COVID 19 pandemic has curtailed many of READI’s traditional volunteer activities. The majority of projects through the end of the year have been cancelled, postponed or are virtual. Effective July 13 Dane County Emergency Order #8 reaffirmed and in some cases, further restricted, public activities. Mass gatherings are limited to 10 people or less for inside activities. Since many READI volunteers are classified at risk or vulnerable due to age and underlying conditions, the READI Leadership Committee believes it is in the group’s best interest to continue to suspend regular READI operations until the COVID 19 situation improves.
READI Leadership has been regularly assessing limited volunteer opportunities that can be done individually at home or with minimal exposure risk. We have been successful in making / packaging over 11,000 face masks. In addition, the Road Home organization, through United Way, has also requested assistance on a small project to stuff school backpacks for homeless children. The committee will continue to assess these types of projects as they are proposed to the organization.
Meanwhile, please be sure to continue to follow all the health and safety guidelines so that we can all volunteer as soon as possible.
Stay safe and healthy.
