Dear Dolly Parton Imagination Library Families,

Thank you for the opportunity to provide the gift of reading to your family over the last couple
of years. We are sorry to inform you that December will be the last of your book mailings supplied by partnership of The Dollywood Foundation and United Way of Dane County. We have been working over the last few months with The Dollywood Foundation to find a new home in Dane County for this program. The Dollywood Foundation will supply registration information to the new operator of the program and you will receive notification when a new local champion is secured.

Since the program launched in 2017, we’ve mailed over 100,000 books across Dane County, from Mt. Horeb to Marshall, from Belleville to Morrisonville. We’ve served almost 6,400 children, many of whom had fewer than five books in their home before the program came to our community.
Dane County is very fortunate to have many literacy and book distribution programs. With organizations like Reach Out and Read, Madison Reading Project and the dozens of public libraries, including Dane County Library Services’ Bookmobile, we know that books will continue to get into the hands of our youngest citizens of Dane County. United Way of Dane County will continue to support early literacy and poverty reduction and we hope that you will continue to seek out books, to read aloud to your children at least 15 minutes a day and encourage them to grow their love of books at an early age.

Children’s early years are a high priority for us. Ensuring the babies of Dane County are cared for and have fun as they become prepared for school benefits the whole community. We know that the most formative years in a child’s development are from birth to age five and United Way is there from the beginning, investing in evidence-based programs like home visiting in order to get children and their parents off to a great start.

We are grateful to our agency partners, the post office, and several very generous donors for supporting this program the past two years – and to you, for taking the time to enroll your child(ren) and more importantly, share the joy of reading with them.

If you have any questions, please contact Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Regional Director, Pam Hunsaker at or visit the program website at

Please know that all returned books will be donated to programs serving children and families
in Dane County.
