Business Nomination

  • A company’s commitment to volunteerism plays a critical role in achieving our community goals. Employees’ time, skills and expertise create lasting change and make a long-term impact in Dane County.

    Community Volunteer Business Award United Way’s Community Volunteer Business Award recognizes a business that strengthens our community through volunteerism! All companies that volunteer at a Dane County nonprofit agency or school are eligible to be nominated. One company will receive $1,000 for the organization with which they volunteer. This award is sponsored by the Business Volunteer Network.

    All nominated businesses will be recognized and the award recipient will be announced at the Community Volunteer Awards luncheon on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club.

    Eligibility

    • Complete the nomination form and answer the questions in this packet to tell the story and impact of your nominee’s volunteer work.
    • Nominee volunteer activities may take place at any nonprofit organization or school in Dane County that serves the community at large.
    • Event sponsors cannot self-nominate for the Community Volunteer Business Award. Table sponsors can self-nominate for this award.
    • Previous nominees and recipients may be nominated again. However, recipients of a 2019 award or a recipient of the Mike McKinney Award in any year may not be nominated in 2020.
    • Employees of United Way of Dane County and their families may not participate as a nominator or nominee. Judges and their families may not participate as a nominator.
    • Eligibility and the selection of award recipients are at the discretion of the judges and judges’ decisions are final.

    • Q: Who chooses the award recipients? A: Recipients are selected by a group of volunteer community leaders.
    • Q: Should I tell the volunteers they’ve been nominated? A: Yes! It is a great honor to be nominated for a United Way Community Volunteer Award.
    • Q: What happens after a volunteer is nominated? A: After the nomination form is received at United Way, a congratulatory letter will be sent to the nominee. Later, the nominee will receive an invitation to the awards luncheon.
    • Q: Can I submit more than one nomination? A: Yes, you are encouraged to nominate as many individuals as you would like. However, you may only submit one nomination per company and include all volunteer activities you want to be considered.
    • Q: Do companies need to only volunteer at United Way partner agencies? A: No, a company’s volunteer activities can take place at any Dane County nonprofit(s) or school.
