Your Impact in Action: Zachai is Ready for School!
Watch this short 1-minute video to see how your investment in United Way
helped Zachai get ready for 4K.
Ever wonder how your investment in United Way is paying off right here in our community? Peggy and her son Zachai are a powerful example of the work you make possible when you are #Champions4Change and give of your time, energy and resources.
Peggy moved to Madison to escape domestic violence and make a better future for Zachai. Thanks to the community’s donations to United Way, Zachai was able to take part in the United Way supported ParentChild+ program which focuses on early education at local partner agency, RISE. His teachers immediately noticed his improvement and he is now ready for kindergarten, just like 81% of the kids who also participated in this program in 2018.
With over 100 partner agencies, multiple voices from the business community, local families, donors, volunteers and community leaders, United Way of Dane County works behind the scenes to change systems and lives – like Peggy and Zachai’s.
Issues across our community can feel overwhelming, but family by family, United Way and its partners are making change happen.
The ParentChild+ program supported 160 local families in 2018 – but approximately 1,700 more children would benefit from early childhood literacy programs like this one. Give to United Way and your dollars are invested in community-informed strategies and solutions to support more families like Peggy and Zachai.

United Way 2-1-1 is a 24/7 information and referral service that connects people to a variety of resources such as food pantries, utility and rent assistance, job training, transportation resources, support groups, home chores for older adults, tutoring and youth recreation, and community clinics. Call us if you have any questions or are having difficulty finding the resources you need. There are not currently enough services to meet demand, but we will do our best to connect and support you. Calls to 2-1-1 also help the community understand what resources are needed, and provide insight so United Way can continue to tackle the root causes of these issues.
