Spread the holiday cheer by giving back

Madison, WI (Nov. 6, 2017) – It’s officially United Way’s Winter Season of Caring! Following a successful Community Kickoff and Fall Season of Caring, we are keeping the spirit of giving back going year-round by offering this year’s Holiday Wish List! This annual compilation from more than 70 local nonprofit agencies offers a wide range of holiday volunteer and donation opportunities to help local families in Dane County.
Examples of volunteer opportunities include wrapping gifts for children and families, hosting donation drives, and shoveling snow for older adults. Additionally, this list is a great resource those looking to donate items such as food, clothing, toys and decorations during the holiday season.
Lorraine is just one example of the Wish List at work. She writes, “During the holiday season, I picked up the Holiday Wish List at my local library. During these cold winter days, I have been organizing, downsizing and donating to agencies. I had a few extra baby hats from my December craft show, so I contacted March of Dimes. This has evolved into a wonderful volunteer experience! I’m knitting teeny hats and sewing developmental hearts. We were able to deliver these items to UnityPoint Health – Meriter’s NICU. What a moving experience!”
This year, more than 30 Dane County libraries will have printed copies of the Holiday Wish List thanks to Isthmus. The list is also available at a variety of local businesses, at United Way of Dane County’s office at 2059 Atwood Ave, and on our website. You may also contact United Way at (608) 246-4380 to obtain a paper copy. There is no charge for the publication.
The Holiday Wish List is compiled by United Way of Dane County and distributed in partnership with Isthmus, the Business Volunteer Network (BVN) and BMO Harris Bank.
