More than 110 local companies were honored for their philanthropy and leadership at United Way of Dane County’s second annual Leadership Giving Thank You Breakfast.

On February 3, 2015, United Way of Dane County held its second Leadership Giving Thank You Breakfast at the Madison Concourse Hotel and Governor’s Club. This event focused on celebrating the collective impact of over 110 local companies and the several thousand local leadership level philanthropists who made United Way of Dane County’s 2014 campaign a record breaking success. This event was sponsored by American Family Insurance.
“You have all done so much for United Way, but there is a clear need for Leadership Givers like us to keep this important work moving forward,” says Ginger Zimmerman, 2015 Key Club Chair, Shareholder at Murphy Desmond SC. “This is what gets results and adds vitality to the livelihood of our community. This embodiment of philanthropy is the major contributor to ensuring our community’s toughest issues are addressed.”

The room was at capacity with a record breaking attendance. More than 330 local community and business leaders attended the celebration. The event focused on illustrating the impact of leadership giving on ending the cycle of poverty in Dane County with keynote speaker Noble Wray, Former Madison Police Chief and United Way Volunteer, who spoke of the new HIRE Initiative. “The initiative is working for the next three years to help 240 individuals secure or improve their employment and 45 families secure stable housing,” says Wray. “Solving poverty in our community takes more than jobs, though. Families also need a stable place to call home and a solid educational foundation for their children. Supporting programs like Housing First are also strengthening these efforts by putting families in stable housing and providing the support to stay there.”

Businesses who lead this effort also were recognized for their achievements with special Key Club awards. In addition, Key Club Coordinators and Rosenberry Ambassadors who lead the efforts in their individual companies were also recognized.
