Global Youth Service Day

Youth Volunteer Corps

The Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) is a group of young people (ages 14-18) who are passionate about volunteerism and making an impact in their community. The YVC will work together to promote youth volunteerism all across Dane County. The group will take a leadership role in planning, organizing and participating in two large service events: the Teen Gift Program in the winter and Global Youth Service Day in the spring.

By Youth For Youth (BYFY)

Proposals for student and youth led initiatives in Dane County are now being accepted by the By Youth For Youth (BYFY) committee and sponsors. Led by United Way, BYFY is a committee of local high school students who will direct approximately $20,000-$30,000 to projects generated, planned and implemented by youth groups benefiting people across Dane County. Youth/youth groups can apply for up to $3,000 for a one year period.

The deadline for receiving proposals is December 21, 2012 at noon. To ensure delivery, proposals should be postmarked December 19, 2012. This year’s funding priorities set by the committee are focused on activities that promote healthy relationships, diversity and multi-culturalism, education and career planning, healthy living, LGBTQ, and the environment; as well as drug and alcohol use prevention and education. For a full list, please see the Request for Proposals.

An optional information session will be held for interested applicant groups on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 6:30-7:30PM at the Anderson United Way Building located at 2059 Atwood Avenue, Madison.

BYFY is a unique volunteer opportunity for local youth to become leaders in the community. BYFY committee members are Dane County high school students who represent the youth community in identifying critical issues impacting their peers, establishing funding priorities, reviewing proposals, and recommending youth program funding.
