housing matters - Heather and her daughters

Heather and her daughters have been homeless three times, but now they've broken the cycle and found stability.

Heather and her two daughters have been homeless three times. "It was awful," Heather says, "We were always wondering where and when we could eat next and where we could go to when it was cold." Without a home address, it was difficult to maintain a steady job. Without a job, it was difficult to rent an apartment. Heather desired a better life for her family and wanted to get out of the cycle of homelessness. "I was out of ideas and didn't know what to do or where to go," Heather says. Then, she was referred to a United Way partner agency, Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN). At IHN, Heather and her family worked with a case manager and landlords to find a steady job and stable housing. Interfaith Hospitality Network created a lasting solution for Heather by addressing underlying issues that ensure stable housing. Heather received help to improve job skills and maintain employment. She and her family have now been in stable housing for five years.
