By Youth For Youth

By Youth For Youth (BYFY) is a volunteer committee of Dane County high school students that makes funding decisions for youth-led programming in Dane County. BYFY provides youth the opportunity to identify needs and issues that are important to them and direct funding to address those needs through projects developed and implemented by youth to serve youth.

"BYFY is a great program that is rewarding, fun and a great help to the community. It's a great place to meet new friends and help out local youth organizations," Kathleen Ralph a current BYFY member explains enthusiastically. "I look forward to going every week."

High school students in Dane County who are interested in helping to improve their community are encouraged to consider joining By Youth For Youth. Students meet weekly between the months of October and March. During this time, they identify funding priorities, develop a grant application form, spread the word among youth groups about the availability of funds, evaluate funding requests and recommend funding. Funding recommendations are approved by the sponsoring organizations.

By Youth For Youth is sponsored collaboratively by United Way of Dane County, the Dane County Youth Commission, the City of Madison, and Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods.
